A recent Indeed report highlights an important shift in how Indian professionals are approaching international careers. As visa processes become more complex and international mobility faces increasing uncertainty, more professionals are exploring ways to build global careers through remote work, international projects, upskilling and alternative destinations.
According to the report, 61% of Indian professionals are now more inclined to pursue global remote roles rather than relocate overseas. At the same time, 49% said they would continue working from India if their preferred visa pathway was unavailable.
The idea of a global career is changing
For years, building an international career often meant securing a job, obtaining a visa and moving to another country.
That approach is beginning to change.
Professionals can increasingly gain international exposure by working with global companies, participating in international projects, developing globally relevant skills and building professional networks across borders — sometimes without immediately relocating.
The Indeed study, conducted among 552 employers and 1,019 employees, found that 39% of professionals are actively preparing for global opportunities through upskilling, certifications and international networking.

Germany is emerging as an attractive alternative
While the United States has traditionally been one of the most popular destinations for Indian professionals, changing visa conditions are encouraging candidates to consider other international markets.
According to the Indeed report, Germany was identified as a preferred non-US destination by 47% of professionals surveyed, alongside other countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom.
Germany’s strong economy, demand for skilled professionals and established pathways for international talent make it an increasingly important destination for candidates looking to build careers in Europe.
For Indian professionals, this creates an opportunity to look beyond the traditional idea of “moving abroad” and instead explore a wider range of international career pathways.
